My homework ate my week!

Sorry for being absent for most of last week.

I had an assignment in my design class that completely monopolized my time.

Jared said I was overdoing it, but I really like the class and I want to turn in good work.

This week I'm going to try and limit the time spent on homework.

I never thought I'd say those words!

This is one of the few semesters that I really love.

School is finally exciting!

I wanted to share some school supplies that I would love to have.

My birthday is less than a month away (by a day), and Jared wants to know what I want.

This might be the first year that I don't have a list a mile long.

Sure there are lots of things I would like to have, but nothing I want bad enough to ask for.

So I thought about it for awhile, and I realized there is something that I really want.

A vintage sewing machine.

A machine made out of metal, that was built to last a lifetime.

The machine I have now is plastic, and has a hard time with heavier fabrics.

I want a machine with character, one that can handle any project.

There are also a few books I would love to have.

What's red and white and smells like garbage?

This morning Harry and I went on our daily walk.

When we got back home I moved anything that was in dog-reach, gave him a treat, and quickly ran to the store. I was gone for less than 10 minutes.

As soon as I opened the door I realized I had forgotten to move one important item, the garbage.

He managed to pull a few items out of the garbage, one was an almost empty container of pasta sauce.

I know I should be mad at him, but it just made me laugh.

He looks ridiculous!

School is Cool!

Last week began the Fall semester at the ~~crappy~~ prestigious Bakersfield College.

I will only be taking two classes this semester, due to my amazing talent for procrastination.

Just in case we move during the semester, I am taking online courses.

I have Sociology of Women and Computer Illustration.

I am very excited about both classes, but I tend to have a hard time with online courses.

Because I don't actually have to show up, I end up doing the work at the last minute, or late.

This time I will be different!

I'm going to do a little work everyday, and finish my assignments on time.

To get myself organized and excited for school, I put together a binder, and decorated it.

Now I am ready to learn!

Missing In Action

Some of you may have noticed that I have been MIA this week.

I was having problems with one of my medications, which made me a complete zombie all week.

I barely had enough energy to take a shower. So this is what I've been like.

Luckily it has been worked out, and I am starting to feel normal again. Hooray!

I've been meaning to share some of the pictures from last weekend.

Bad Hair Day

This weekend was pretty uneventful.

We took pictures of a few new dresses, and watched our favorite shows.

Last night Jared insisted on giving Harry a trim.

With the huge kitchen scissors in hand, he started hacking away.

This is the finished product.

He looks like he is molting.

At least it's not as bad as the Benjamin Franklin.

That was by far the worst haircut Harry has ever had!

I love tumblr!

It sucks me in, and I can easily loose a few hours looking at pretty pictures.

I realize that it's not the best way to spend my time, and yet I keep going back.

Well, I'm glad I did, because I have found the greatest tumblr yet.

It's called Defunct Fashion, and it's dedicated to historic fashion.

There are hundreds of pictures of museum pieces and amazing reproductions.

Here are some of my favorites.

This is my dream dress!

I wish I could have borrowed it for my wedding.

I am so inspired by the designers of the past. The detail and artistry that is shown in these pieces, is absolutely extraordinary.

I don't know about you, but I would love nothing more than to put on one of these gowns, and go to a ball!

Today my little brother and sister turn 17.
Crazy!

What happened to the cute little kids that watched Barney, and would do anything I asked?

Time goes by so fast. I can't believe they are all grown up.

I swear, just yesterday this is what they looked like.

And now.....

I am feeling very old!

But, I'm also very proud. They are smart, funny, and beautiful.

This has been a rough year for my family, especially for my siblings.

They have handled it better that I have, and I admire them for that.

Blogger was being uncooperative yesterday, so this post is a day late.

This past weekend was exceptionally productive.

I spent most of the time in my craft room working on new accessories.

Over the past year or so, I have amassed a ton of vintage trim. I've used some of it on my clothing designs, but I had always intended to use the trim for accessories. Finally, I did just that.

Here are some of the headbands I made.

Most of the headbands were made from my vintage trim collection. There are a few made from vintage fabric, one made from a vintage bow tie, and another that I made using the bead work from a discarded sari.

I also made a bunch of new Little Pretties ....

...and decorated a few plain vintage buttons.

All in all it was a pretty good weekend!

I am obsessed with vintage craft and sewing books.

There is the best Goodwill bookstore a few miles from our house. I make sure to check it out every week or two. They have a whole wall full of craft books and magazines. I never leave empty handed!

My absolute favorite, are books from the 60s and 70s. They are filled with weird and kitschy projects.

Here are a few of my favorites.

I've decided to put these books to use. Each week I want to try and do one project from one of my books.

It will be fun to make some of these weird crafts, and I have tons of excess supplies that need to be used.

For next week, it's between a silly face monster or a story book doll. Which do you think I should do?

This weekend I was determined to have fun.

So, I spent a few hours roaming around my favorite antique shop.

I found some pretty buttons, and antique doilies.

I also spent a lot of time working on some really fun craft projects.

Distracted and Frustrated

Sorry for my absence these past few days.

I've aloud myself to get distracted by an unnecessary project.You see, I'm almost out of postcards (for the shop), and I wanted to try and design the next batch myself. I don't know what I was thinking!

Designing via computer is not my forte, but I had to try. Needless to say, it did not go so well. I have ideas, but I don't have the proper software or technical know-how. So, if anyone has any knowledge in this area, I would greatly appreciate any pointers!

Anyways! I'm back, no more distractions, I promise.

I'm still feeling a little down, but I'm really making an effort to be positive.

Trying to find a reason to smile

Finding a reason to smile has been pretty hard for me this week.

I've been feeling sad, lonely, discouraged, and like I'm a burden on my husband.

I live in a city I hate, and the fact that my only friends are Jared and Harry, only makes it worse.

I love searching for vintage treasures, and Bakersfield is full of them, but shopping can't be my only source of happiness. That's just sad! Making accessories and clothes makes me happy, but business has been slow lately, and I feel discouraged. I love what I make, and I want other people to love it too! I guess I take it personally when things are slow. It hurts my feelings. I know it's silly, but I can't help it.

Rose Red is my only job, besides school, and I feel bad that Jared has to support me. I worked full time while he was in law school, and I was the one with all the money. It didn't bother me that I was the only one with a paying job, I actually liked being the provider. Being the dependent is hard for me, I can't help feeling like a freeloader.

OK, I just had to get that off my chest! Thanks for letting me complain.

Now it's time to count my blessings, and have a positive attitude. I was on a mission this morning to find things that make me smile. I wanted to share some of the pictures that helped put a smile on my face.

What's Old Becomes New Again

I love finding vintage and discarded treasures, and giving them a new life.

All of my original creations are made primarily out of vintage and reclaimed materials.

Reducing my use of new materials, by repurposing what's been discarded is really important to me.

It helps that vintage items tend to be much more interesting, and durable than new ones.

I wanted to share a few of my new accessories with you.

A Large Garden Pest

I love having a home garden.

There's nothing better than going outside before dinner, and picking the ingredients for your meal.
This year in our garden, we are growing tomatoes, potatoes, cucumbers, basil, yellow squash, and honeydew melon.
Fortunately, we haven't had any bug problems this year.
However, there is a rather large pest terrorizing the garden, and it's one that we weren't counting on
Harry!
He has been picking tomatoes, bringing them inside to show us, and then eating it.
Last night is bit off a little more than he could chew.

He could barley fit the tomato in his mouth.

He couldn't figure out how to eat it, but he was not about to give it up.

We had to chase him around the house before we finally caught him.

He really is a bad dog!

Toy Cameras are better than SLR

Thank you guys for all of your input, it really was helpful!

Now that I know what lighting and background to use, all I have to do is figure out how to use our SLR.

We have a Nikon D60, and I'm pretty clueless on how it works.

If anyone is familiar with this camera, I would greatly appreciate your help!

I just developed my Golden Half film from our Disneyland trip, and I wanted to share a few with you.

35mm film, you point and shoot, and even when you mess up your pictures look great.
That's my kind of camera!

My whole weekend was spent crafting and photographing clothing.

It's been awhile since my last batch, so I had a ton that I wanted to shoot.

I didn't even make it halfway, due to the unbearable heat.

Heat + bright lights = Torture!

A Very Proud Parent

While we were in Arizona, we sent Harry to Camp Bow Wow for the day.

We were a little nervous, Harry has a way of aggravating other dogs.

You see, he really likes to play chase, and will pounce on other dogs to get them to play.

Surprisingly, we received only rave reports on our little guy.

Jared and I are so proud of our dog-son!

Camp Bow Wow is such a great place. It's clean, and everyone that works there is friendly and truly loves dogs. We only wish there was one here in Bakersfield.

Also in Arizona, is a huge fabric store called SAS Fabrics.

I was in heaven!

I found tons of vintage goodies.

I have already made several new tops, and will be photographing them this weekend.

A Magical Land

The Disneyland of my youth no longer exists.

I remember skipping through the main street, so excited to see my favorite characters, and go on rides. The air had a sweet smell, and music was playing all around. I was able to see and do everything I had wanted to in just one day.

While my family was visiting, we took a trip to the magic kingdom.

It was hot and unbelievably crowded. Walking through the park felt like an obstacle course, trying to dodge people and strollers the whole way. The ride lines were crazy! 45 minutes to ride on Dumbo, over an hour for space mountain.

Despite my complaints, I really did have fun. Sure, I would have enjoyed it more had there been a few hundred less people. Watching my little sister Sam experience it all for the first time, made it all worth it.

Our Arizona vacation was so much fun!

We spent lots of time playing with our niece and nephew, Roxy and Zane.

Zane is a total boy, and spent a lot of time playing video games with Jared and chasing Harry around.

Roxy is a little angel, and probably the most beautiful baby I have ever seen!

Watching Roxy cuddle up to Jared made me want my own little girl (in a few years).

The 4th of July was spent playing in the pool and eating burgers and hot dogs.

Litchfield Park is also home to the historic Wigwam Resort, and we were lucky enough to stay there.

A New Toy

Last week we gave Harry his summer advantix treatment. For some reason he always gets sick after these treatments. So Jared brought home a new toy to cheer him up.

It Must Be Spring

My eyes are puffy, my nose is stuffed, and I can't stop sneezing.

It must be spring!

I'm not sure what it is that I'm allergic to, but this time of year always triggers my allergies.

Maybe that's why I prefer Fall and Winter.

With that being said, I really do love spring.

I love the early morning sunlight.

I love the smell of the dewy morning air.

I LOVE cherries and all the other seasonal fruit!

Thursday Three- What I've Been Making

Over the years, I have acquired a large amount of vintage jewelry. All costume, and most broken. I've been wanting to use those pieces in some of my projects, so I decided to to start making jewelry.

I'm pretty sure I have craft ADD!

I go from sewing, to printing, to making hair accessories, then back to sewing, and now jewelry. I just can't help myself, I love taking on new projects.

Here are my three favorite pieces.

The center pendent is a vintage enamel flower.

I love how the color is worn and the jewels are yellowed from age.

I used vintage rayon cording, antique buttons,

and salvaged beads.

This is an amazing antique key with a tiny vintage enamel flower,

antique jewels, and a brass bow.

I will be listing jewelry in my accessory shop, just as soon as I figure out how I want to photograph them.

1. My absolute favorite movie of all times is- "Pride and Prejudice" (BBC version)

It's actually a mini series, but I absolutely love it! Colin Firth is the perfect Mr. Darcy.

2. My favorite movie as a child was- "Savannah Smiles"
It's the movie I wanted to rent on every trip to the video store. I watched it as an adult, and I still love it.

3. The best movie quote ever is- from "The Princess Bride"
Buttercup: "farm boy...fetch me that pitcher." Westley: "As you wish." When Jared thinks I'm ordering him around, he quotes this.

4. My favorite actress is- Kate Winslet. I think she is so talented and beautiful.
My favorite Actor is- Carry Grant. For me, no other actor comes close to what Carry Grant was.

5.The movie I could watch over and over (besides P&P) is-

"What a girl wants." I don't own this movie, but any time it's on T.v. I watch it. I know it's lame, but I really like it.

6. My favorite movie genre is- Jared calls it "Love in the olden days," and that's pretty accurate.

7. A movie I'd like to watch this weekend is - "Where the wild things are"

Eva's Obituary

Eva Dien Brine Markvoort … what a life! She lived passionately, with purpose, and died on Saturday, March 27. She left a legacy of love and made a difference in the lives of thousands of people both in her personal life and in her online community. Eva’s life, almost 26 years long, was defined by her challenges related to cystic fibrosis. She knew how to live for the moment and her magnetic personality drew people in at every turn. Eva took nothing for granted and she had no time for complainers. Her life was full of vibrant moments and she appreciated all the beautiful aspects of her surroundings, constantly adjusting to the limitations presented by her health. Eva filled every room she entered, she engaged herself in the present and she learned to turn the most challenging situations into positive experiences. She was a force! Eva has enriched the lives of her parents, Janet Brine and Bill Markvoort, her siblings Annie and Hunter, her loving extended family of aunts, uncles and cousins, and her dearest core ‘team’. Eva's family expresses their gratitude for the tremendous support provided by friends, family, neighbours, colleagues, the medical team, and Eva's online community.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Eva’s memory to the Vancouver Cystic Fibrosis Foundation will be gratefully accepted at www.cfvancouver.ca . All who read this are also encouraged to register as an organ donor at www.transplant.bc.ca . For her online community, Eva’s Celebration of Love will be streamed online on April 30 beginning at 4:00 p.m. Pacific Standard Time.

• I wanted to be a secretary or work in an office - I used to force my sisters to play travel agents and "secretary school"! If you met me now you'd probably describe me as outgoing, maybe even brassy, and definitely NOT retiring - but back then I was intensely serious.

•we used to put on little plays for my parents whenever my cousins came to play - after a while I got so sick of telling everyone what to do that I resigned from the stage and became a full-time director. In this role I organized the great Spice Girls concert of 1997, and numerous small-scale commercials during concert "ad breaks".

•I really fancied Elijah Wood, but when LOTR came out I developed a crush on Orlando Bloom. Unable to maintain BOTH crushes I drew up a pros and cons list for each to help me decide who I liked better. (I can't remember who won but I'm still incapable of having more than one choice in my life - it does my head in!)

•my classmates discussed who our Dads had voted for in the playground when Tony Blair was elected. My Dad wouldn't tell me, and so I always considered the vote to be a HUGE SECRET. (I still feel funny about talking about it!)

•I read all the abridged classics in the whole school in a really intense phase when I was about 9. I loved "Lorna Doone" so much I reread it about 8 times. I can't remember what it's about now, except rustic English folk types, dramatic weddings and fainting women!

•I was obsessed with The Beatles. I could recite the whole script to their film "A Hard Day's Night", and knew not only all their birthdays, but their wedding anniversaries too.

•Saturday mornings were for Live and Kicking with Zoe Ball and Jamie Theakston! Who needs lie-ins?!

•I thought my Mum and Dad's real names were... Mum and Dad :)

•I always won spitting competitions with watermelon seeds

•I was a tomboy! and used to love playing elastic band war games with my cousins much more than playing with dolls. Though I DID own a Scary Spice doll...

Wow, what an intense little girl! I can't believe you made a pro and con list for Orlando and Elijah, that is so funny. The Spice girl concert sounds amazing, I love that there were also commercials.

There is a rack of pretty dresses in my house that has been waiting several weeks to be photographed. I decided that it was time, so this weekend we had a photo-shoot.

I found an old bag of tennis balls in the garage, so I gave one to Harry.

This tennis ball has become Harry's favorite toy. He likes to bring it to you, and right as you reach for it, he takes it away. He's such a little stinker!

The past few days have been consumed by my obsession to redo my blog. Before I started this project my computer editing skills were pretty basic. Which means, I knew how to use picnik, and post blogs.

In the beginning, I just wanted to change the banner and some colors. That's when I realized how little I knew, but I was determined to figure it out.

When I was little...

I'd get really excited when those Scholastic order forms would go around in class. You know the ones where you could order books and such.

My brother and I would create "obstacle courses" throughout the house which would include flying down the stairs with our pillows underneath us or bowling with my dolls/stuffed animals.

I was obsessed with anything Barbie. Barbie dominated my Christmas lists each year.

I was bitten in the cheek by a dog that resulted in a HUGE fear for years. YEARS.

My brother and I made cookies once and put ajax and dish-washing soap in them. We forgot to tell our parents. They tried them. They're alive.

Paula Abdul and Whitney Houston were my favs.

I shaved my legs and arms because I thought shaving meant the hair never grew back.

I sucked on the honeysuckles that would grow around my house in NJ.

My mom made all my dresses for every special occasion. They were over the top and itched like hell.

The Unsolved Mysteries song, Gremlins, toy clowns and bees scared the crap out of me.

My parents would take me and my brother to Dunkin Donuts every Saturday night. I always got a lemon filled doughnut.

Summer was my favorite season, cheese (any kind) was my favorite "food", Dirty Dancing was my favorite movie, orange was my favorite color and a Blimpies sub was my favorite meal.

I secretly loved getting a cold because that meant I could have some of that pink bubblegum flavored medicine.

Why I Love The Weekend

Saturday mornings are my favorite.

As soon as we wake up, we head over to our favorite bakery, Smith's. They have the best donuts I have ever tasted, and I have to eat one (or five) every weekend. Most people drink milk with their donuts, but my drink of choice is a diet RockStar. This combination may sound disgusting to you, but it's my favorite part of the weekend!

When I was little.....

I was ridiculously girly.

I had sparkly pink cowboy boots...that I wore daily.

I loved Madonna and Cyndi Lauper.

I had a mullet.

I made my little brother wear a tutu.

Full House was my favorite show.

Had a fat crush on JTT (Jonathan Taylor Thomas).

I rocked a bikini with way more confidence than I ever would now.

Waited for my favorite songs to come on the radio and then recorded them onto cassette tapes.

Liked to practice my penmanship.

A Work In Progress

It seems like I start a new project every week. My erratic brain is full of ideas, but doesn't know how to organize them. Because of this, I have a room full of started projects, and rarely finish anything.

I am determined to change this!
This week I've made an effort to complete some of the things I started.

Making flowers with a loom

(This is not really a project)
I have wanted a flower loom for a while now, so when I finally found one I had to get it. It's been sitting in my craft room for over a month, waiting to be used. I finally made some pretty little flowers.

Remember all that fabric I bought?

I brought the fabric home, cleaned it, and cut out some patterns. The ready to sew pieces sat in a drawer for weeks. I finally finished those pieces. Hooray!
It took several prototypes, but I finally made the perfect wrap skirt.

A work in progress

I actually started this yesterday. I'm using a vintage dress pattern to make this one. This is going to be my practice dress, I plan on tweaking the pattern for the next one.

Bird Watching

Around six last night, Jared and I noticed a strange birdlike sound. We decided to investigate, and went out to our backyard. A little hummingbird was zooming from tree to tree around our house. We got our camera, sat outside, and watched this amazing little guy.

We were hoping that he would come closer to us, but he stayed up in the trees.

The hummingbird has been my favorite bird ever since I was little. There is something magical about them.

We decided that we need a hummingbird feeder in our yard. Maybe then we can get a shot like this!

When I was Little....

1. i dressed up my cats in doll clothes and gave them rides in my bicycle basket

2. my sister and i wore crocheted shawls around our waists as hula skirts (with nothing up top) and did fake Hawaiian dances in our front yard

3. i made my brothers' whole bedroom into an alleged time traveling machine

4. my mom made us the coziest flannel nightgowns with tiny buttons shaped like ducks or kitty faces

5. i loved to read the Little House on the Prairie books and all books for that matter

6. i created a whole series of stories about animal princesses and each one had a "moral"

7. my favorite food was probably popsicles

9. i helped my mom make homemade pomegranate jelly and helped my dad plant fruit trees

10. i started wearing glasses in 4th grade and they were much too big for my face

11. we put on puppet shows over the side of our bunk bed

12. i had a giant bin of "dress up clothes" and we'd say LET'S PLAY PRETEND!!!

i loved being little so much. i grew up in a time when kids didn't have to grow up too fast; we were in our little worlds of imagination and innocence and exuberance. it was super fun having a sister very close to my age (our mom put us in matching clothes all the time and people thought we were twin) plus three brothers to run around and play with. life was all about playing, playing, and more playing. AHHH! now that's how things should always be!

Harry Loves Easter

Harry Loves Easter!

He was so excited when he saw this basket full of treats, that he immediately began to make his move. First he made sure to lick every single peep, to insure that they were just for him. Slowly, he started to nibble at the edge, gently pulling the peep towards him. Unable to control himself any longer, he inhaled his sugary treat. In the span of 10 seconds, he managed to eat his first peep and go for seconds.

Please don't think were bad dog parents! We didn't feed him peeps on purpose. It was just too funny to watch him trying to be sneaky.

It's a mouse/paper pad from target, perfect for jotting down notes.

If I would have been able to quit the Air Force, all the words I would have used would have been bad.

5. How will you make your dreams come true?
Never give up, work hard, and keep believing in myself. My husbands love and support will be a big part of that.

My best friend and I were Care Bears a few years ago. It was awesome!

About a month ago I did a post called "There is beauty all around."

It was about how our usually dry and brown city has been transformed, and is lush and green.

Here are some pictures taken with my lomo lc-a.

Soon the blooms will fall and the grass will die, and Bakersfield will transform back into Mordor (what jared and i call it). Until then, I will continue to enjoy the lovely scenery.

When I was little...

I loved making things—just like I do today!

I was constantly building forts and making secret clubs with friends.

I liked “designing” (drawing and coloring) princess dresses.

I had a special place in my heart for animals and wanted to be a vet for at least a few years.

I always had my nose in a book and I loved being at school.

I met my best friend at age 8! (And next year will be the maid of honor in her wedding!)

When I Was Little- by Summer

Today we have a great list from the lovely Summer, over at B is for Brown.

1. I dressed in a hula skirt and mardi gras beads. No top. The beads were my top. I would hula around the living room until I got dizzy.

2. I had an imaginary friend. His name was Spober. He could fit in my pocket, had red curly hair, wore a striped shirt with red shorts. Is it weird that I miss him a little? I also loved Cyndi Lauper, Rainbow Brite and finding all of the Easter eggs.

3. I was incredibly shy and would always hide behind my mother's leg. Mom had skinny legs too, so it was hard for me. Can you imagine me shy? hahah!

4. I had a parakeet named Pickle. I named him this because he was green. He would say - "time to eat and i love my chevy"!

5. I loved Strawberry Shortcake, Cabbage Patch Dolls and Pick up Sticks. I then moved onto collecting Garbage Pail Kids. Remember those?

6. I had a cute pout and I have since been told that I STILL have it.

7. I lived in this cardboard castle my dad got me. If mom couldn't find me, she would knock on the window and out my head would pop.

What a cutie! With that little pout, I'm sure she always got her way. Her imaginary friend kinda sounds like Carrot top, only pocket size.

These lists are great, because they help us remember the simple joys in life. Like the fun that can be had with a cardboard box!

Backyard Birthday Lights

While Jared was at work Monday, Harry and I were setting up a special birthday surprise.

I set up a tent (all by myself!), and decorated it with lights, flowers, gnomes, and a special birthday banner. He was very surprised when he saw the glowing birthday fort in the backyard.

We listened to music , ate cake, and talked for hours.

Hopefully I made this birthday special for him.

I did a few of these posts a few months ago, and I've missed them terribly! Many of you may have missed them, so here is the first "when i was little" list for you to check out.

Today we have my friend Cassandras list.

When I was little:

I was always trying to find a mystery to solve.

I wanted to be an archaeologist. Nothing seemed better than finding something ancient that no one else had discovered.

I made up dances to Madonna, Tiffani, and the Bangles.

My favorite family vacations were camping trips to the lake.

I would leave flowers on my neighbors doorsteps, knock, and then run away.

I was always outside playing in my yard: maze and spy were my favorites.

I loved track and field, painting ceramics, babysitting, and putting together clubs.

I spent countless hours digging in the hill across the street, and finding buried treasures (old bottles.)

I loved baking and doing crafts.

1. Today I am wearing I'm still in my Pjs.

2. My favorite childhood food was Microwaveable bean and cheese burritos. and my favorite food now is Any authentic mexican food, and all desserts .

3. A day that I am too busy to to watch a little TV is a day that I am too busy. TV helps me get ready for bed.

4. The last movie I saw was "Up In The Air" and the next movie I want to see is "New Moon" It comes out this weekend!

5. My favorite smell is Bath and Body Works "Leaves" because, It smells fresh and clean.

6. A weird little quirk I have is I don't answer the door when people knock, unless I really know them. I'm very suspicious of strangers, and watch way too much "I Survived."

Playing With Dolls

When I was little, I loved to play with dolls. When some girls my age started to have boyfriends, I was still playing with my dolls. I am no longer embarrassed to admit this!

Here are some of my favorite childhood dolls.

To be perfectly honest, I still love dolls. One of my favorite dolls, is the Blythe doll. She is kinda creepy, but totally beautiful.

Another doll I love, is Sad Eye Susie. She is a cheap plastic doll that was sold for a few years in the 60s. With large eyes like the Blythe, she is way more affordable. I think she is lovely!

I think I will always love dolls.

This is Charles, my favorite pug!

His mom is the lovely Laura, over at Superhero.
They just found out that Charles has SARDS- Sudden Acquired Retinal Degeneration Syndrome. Which means, Charels has lost his eyesight.

Forgotten Film

Months ago I participated in a photo swap. Unfortunately my partner was unable to complete the swap, and was going to send my pictures back. I had forgotten all about it when I finally received them in the mail. Here are my favorites.

I am finally starting to feel better. Being sick is the worst! I wasn't able to accomplish anything, I barely had enough energy to walk around. It's a good thing I had Harry to take care of me. He never complained about missing his daily walk, and he never left my side. What a good boy!

Bright Star by-John Keats

A beautiful poem that was inspired by Fanny, John Keats true love.

I watched this movie yesterday, and fell in love with Keats poetry. In my prior studies of romantic poetry, I had favored Wordsworth and Blake. Seeing the love that inspired so many of John Keats poems, made them more real and meaningful to me.

Because I like to multitask, I made some flowers while watching the movie.

I used the lovely seafoam fabric I found at the thrift store. I am seriously obsessed with this color right now!

This weekend we will be taking pictures and I will be doing a lot of sewing.

Fabric Find

Now that I have a serger, I want to start making more original pieces for the shop. I have been working on some new clothing designs, and I have finally decided which ones I want to use. All I needed was some fabric.
Yesterday I decided to go to my favorite thrift stores, in search of vintage fabrics. I was not disappointed!

I found some really great floral and novelty prints. I can't wait to get started on my new projects.

This is the beautiful city of Vancouver. Watching the many Olympic events, you can't help but notice how amazing Vancouver is. The best of both worlds, a big city only a few miles from the great outdoors. This city is now on my list of places I want to visit.

There Is Beauty All Around

Thanks to all the winter rain, Bakersfield is actually pretty right now! We went on a Sunday drive to check out all the new blooms and green hills.

I will enjoy the greenery while I can, because in a month or two it will all be brown, dry and hot!

Happy Birthday Blog!

Yesterday my blog had it's first birthday. It's crazy to think it's been a whole year since I've started blogging.

The past year has been full of ups and downs. It seems like for all the good, there has been twice as much bad. This blog has helped carry me through the bad times, and made me appreciate the good. I feel so blessed to be apart of the blogging community, and to have made so many wonderful friends.

I know things will only get better!

Jared and I have very few pictures of both of us together, and most of those are old. Now that we have a tripod, I thought it was about time to take some new pictures.

Jared was reluctant at first, he didn't like the outfit I picked of for him, and he thought our backyard was a lame setting. He also knew that I would end up posting these on my blog. I convinced him that it would be fun to try, and so what if they sucked.

Jared has wanted a tripod for a long time now, and I luckily found one on my last visit to the thrift store. Still in it's box from the 80s, it was in perfect condition, and a steal at $4!

The next two nights we spent hours playing with different settings on our camera that require a tripod. Here are our silly pictures.

Inspired by Lauren at the little things we do.

1. I am hoping my Valentine's day this year includes, See's candy, husband made dinner, and a pretty dress.

2. My biggest guilty pleasure is The Bachelor, and Taylor Swift. I don't own any of her music, but when I hear it, I kinda like it. I'm so embarrassed!

3. I am most proud of Overcoming the trials in my life, to become a (semi)normal, and (sometimes)confident women. Also getting married in the Temple.

4. If I could choose one outfit to live in it would be A vintage mini with leggings and boots. I love leggings!

5. People are overwhelming in large numbers. Sometimes they are rude, scary, and mean. But I have to believe that there are more good and kind people than bad.

6. I would rather constantly travel than stay in one place .

7. I love my family more than anything in the world.
